Animated GIFs? You Bet.

Oct 21 2009

I have been seeing a resurgence in the use of animated gifs in email campaigns. In the past they have been an eye sore, but this past week I was surprised when one in my iPhone made me stop, pause, and actually pay attention. Now it was a really simple method but got me thinking about how we could use them more (and the fact that they rendered on my mobile device).

But creating action in an email does in fact help sometimes. See Style Campaigns post on it from yesterday.

I have attached some screen captures from my own iPhone below. Makes you want to try a few in one of your upcoming campaigns to see if it works for you.

The take away is that you should not feel confined to keep your emails the same each and every time but look to create a unique and unexpected experience. Testing only brings you closer to success.

I receive this email too. However, when I went back to reference it for recent post on animated emails, I noticed that it is now static. I wonder if they experienced an issue.

I just saw a post that said Outlook 2007 will only display the first image of an animated gif. So much for using this in e-mail campaigns to general audiences. Thanks, once again, to Microsoft!
