Really I Own a Jag?

Jul 07 2008

Sure, I am being snarky here, but I found some humor in this email. Was this a mistake? Or was it subliminally suggestive that I will be a Jaguar XJ Owner? With so much copy in many of the automotive emails I subscribe to it is a wonder that I actually caught this snafu. If you look closely at the email they have sent it to me as a Valued XJ Owner. Was this a Batch and Blast Issue that we all hate so much. I use the word “we” as the royal use of “we” as some people still do this.

This email shows how irrelevant some marketers can be when it comes to email marketing programs. You would think in the world of cars (and with one that is selling less than 40K cars in the US a year right now) that they could segment owners vs non owners? Getting the basics down of who is and who is not a customers vs a lead vs a prospect is muy importante to your email marketing programs.

If you do not have a qualifier, user field, or list segmented by the type of person you have on your list, than you are not only doing them a disservice by not being able to talk to them correctly, but also doing yourself a disservice by not being able to target correctly.

Now I would love to have an XJ, and I am hoping that when I wake up in the morning that I look out find that it was me that was wrong and not them. (PS Black would be a hot color in the drive way… wink wink)
