Well, I hope the article didn't come off as "beat 'em over the head" as you imply. I think of it more as "smacking 'em upside the head" - a subtle, but important difference. But yes, the available resources to help marketers take their programs to the next level is simply mind numbing. The fact is email is a victim of its own success - even poorly done email programs often generate a good ROI - so there is no motivation from above or within to work a bit harder to take it to the next level.
