Its The Motion That Matters

Jul 02 2008

Look if animated GIFs have been around so long why don’t we see them used more in email? I have been captivated recently by some retailers using them in their email creative. When my inbox starts moving, it grabs my attention and fast. Movement in unexpected places can be a real pull into the offer, action and drive my attention to click in for more.

Motion shows us that there is MORE past the email itself. It gives us that TV in email action that people are accustom to seeing in everyday life.

Now is it hard? Well no, not at all. It is just a matter of having an animated GIF that tells OR shows us a story. Simple rule of 3 animations wins here.

Above is an example I saw in the past few weeks that had me back over and over again to see what else was there. So it is a win if they got me to look. Even better if I was to buy this, but alas I don’t have a place for it right now. Anyone have beach house of sale?

I agree and at some point true motion (video/flash/animation) will arrive in inboxes.

Something I am sure you are aware of is Outlook 2007 no longer supports animated .gifs. Make sure to place your most important message in frame one so folks receiving emails in good ole ‘07 can see it.

    Cheers.
